How many liters of water we need depends on our gender, daily physical activity, the number of meals we eat, as well as the diseases we face. However, many nutritionists agree that everyone should drink 2.5 liters of water a day. How much water should you drink?

Water balance: water is the lifeblood of life

Water does not provide energy, but performs extremely important functions. Everything that happens in the body requires water. It is thanks to her chemical reactions that allow you to maintain physical and mental condition.

Water is necessary to maintain the correct volume and blood pressure. Carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells. By moving – as the main component of various body fluids – it cleanses the body of by-products of metabolism. It also determines body temperature. When this dangerously rises, excess heat is removed along with the sweat. Without water, there is no proper digestion, proper bowel function and nutrient absorption. It moisturizes the eyeballs, facilitates the swallowing of bites of food, participates in the transmission of sounds through the middle ear and by breathing constantly lungs enables breathing.

8 glasses a day, or how many?

Let’s start with the fact that the glasses have different capacities. Today, we can easily buy small glasses in the store, containing, for example, 150 ml or larger glasses, which can fit 400 or even 500 ml (these are most often used for beer, but maybe some drink water from them?). It is assumed that a standard glass holds 250 ml. And probably this was guided by someone who once said that you should drink 8 glasses of water. However, this is nothing less than just 2 liters of water. The same amount of water assumes a different myth that says that water should be drunk 2 liters a day. Probably most of us have heard one of these versions – 8 glasses or 2 liters of water a day. If you stick to these rules, then the second variant is certainly easier to do and “imagine” without losing track. An average bottle of water in a store (the larger one) contains 1.5 liters.

How much water should you drink per day?

There is no unambiguous and universal answer to this question. Although everyone finds that a glass or two a day is definitely not enough, it is difficult to determine how optimally it will be. Much depends on our health, lifestyle, medications, physical activity, sex, age, weather, clothing … There are so many variables that a person’s water requirements may be slightly different every day.

How much water we need per day is perfectly explained in his latest book by Michel Cymes, a French physician and author of many publications. Although the book “Your brain. How to take care of yourself really “mainly concerns the functioning of the brain, you can find a lot of practical advice in it, because the brain is responsible for all life functions and like our whole body, it also consists mainly of water.
